Grant seems like a fine example of an "intellectual" as the great Thomas Sowell describes such creatures. Hard work is mandatory in every endeavor in life that demands rigor to achieve excellence and in many cases, just to achieve competence. There is little satisfaction in any achievement that did not involve effort and hard work, which may account for the unhappy state of so many young people. Given two people of equal intellect and comparable social skill and ethics, the one with the better work ethic will achieve more on average and will be of greater value as an employee or as a leader. To teach young people otherwise in a ruthlessly competitive global economy is to do them a great disservice.
